FBI Attributes Over $6B Binance Hack to North Korea, Urges THORNode Operators and Other Crypto Service Providers to Block Money Laundering-Linked Transactions The FBI attributed the theft of more than $6 billion in crypto assets from Binance to North Korean hackers, identifying the malicious cyber activity as TraderTraitor. The FBI, US Secret Service (USSS), and IRS Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) observed the attackers converting stolen assets primarily into ETH, with further laundering expected through DeFi and instant swap services. The agencies urged THORNode operators, RPC node operators, instant exchanges, DeFi services, blockchain analytics firms, and other virtual asset service providers to block transactions involving or derived from addresses used by the attackers to launder the stolen funds. The FBI also published a list of addresses operated by or closely linked to the attackers that currently hold or previously held stolen assets.
